Premium from April 2001 in IS, JSA (IB), HB and CTB that delivers the Disability Income Guarantee by paying higher amounts to severely disabled people.
You should award an enhanced disability premium where the claimant or member of their family is in receipt of the highest rate of care component of disability living allowance, and that person is under 60 years of age.
Where the DLA is suspended due to hospitalisation you should treat the claimant as still getting the DLA and award the enhanced disability premium
Enhanced Disability Premium can also be awarded where the claimant is in receipt of the Support Component of the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
The enhanced disability premium is payable at three rates:
For each child or young person in receipt of highest rate DLA care component.
For single claimants in receipt of highest rate DLA care component or the enhanced rate of the daily living component of Personal Independence Payment
Where member of a couple is in receipt of highest rate DLA care component or the enhanced rate of the daily living component of Personal Independence Payment
There is provision in regulations for an Enhanced Disability Premium (EDP) to be awarded for a period of 8 weeks following the death of a child or young person in respect of whom the premium was awarded. Regulations have been amended from 31st October 2011 to make explicit that this EDP run-on applies whether it is the claimant or the partner who was receiving Child Benefit.
