Attachment of Council Members Allowances

This relates to allowances paid to elected members of a Billing Authority or Major Precepting Authority.

When a liability order had been made the Authority may make an application to secure payment.

The application is to be directed to Authority to which debtor is an elected member.

The order shall remain enforce until debt is discharged.

40% of the aggregate attainable allowances will be deducted.

(Basic, attendance & special responsibility allowances -Local Government. & Housing Act 1989)

(Conference allowances & meeting allowances - Local Govt. Act 1972)

Where the amount is paid in full the Billing Authority must notify the relevant authority.

The Billing Authority will treat any other authority as an employer.
